Nature’s method seems ever to be opthalmos panta nousa, whilst in the growth of pollinia in the orchid, to the hazel’s nucament, to the sensible beasts and the brain of Plato, the act of reflection in the mind seems only to raise the brow of experience into eternity.

Hence nature was portrayed as Proteus.
